Privacy policy
The short version: Static only keeps what it needs to work and to get better. Nothing
is sold, rented or shared for advertising. Speech, text and images are processed by AI models running on the
owner's own computer, not by any AI company. You can see and delete what it knows about you at any time with
/profile and /forget.
Who runs it
Static is a free, non-commercial bot run by an individual (the "owner", "we"). It runs on the owner's own computer. Questions about this policy go to the owner on Discord, @logicalgamer.
What it collects
Your account
Your user ID, username, display name and roles in servers the bot is in, when it first and last saw you, and how many times you've talked to it. This lets it recognise people and address them properly. It can also see a server's member list (names and roles) to answer questions like "what roles does this person have?"; that list isn't saved.
Static runs on Discord and on the owner's own Fluxer server (a self-hosted chat app, like Discord). It keeps
separate records for each: what it knows about you on one isn't used on the other, unless you link your
accounts yourself (see below). On Fluxer, the same commands start with ! instead of
/ (!profile, !forget, !profiling off).
Voice
When the bot is in a voice channel it listens to the people in it and turns speech into text, live, so it can answer. Audio is not saved. The last 60 seconds of the call are held in memory so anyone can ask for a clip, and are constantly overwritten. A clip is only saved when someone asks for one, and it is then posted as a message in the server where everyone in that chat can see it.
To tell whether someone sounds excited or annoyed, it keeps a running average of each person's usual loudness and speaking pace. These are just numbers, not recordings. It uses them, together with the words, to pick how to answer, and occasionally to check on someone who sounds upset.
Messages and images
When you message the bot or call it into a channel, it reads your message and up to 10 earlier
messages for context. It can look at images in those messages and at profile pictures. The conversation is kept
in memory while the chat is going, not in a database, and is dropped after 30 minutes of quiet, when a
server admin uses /reset, or when the bot restarts. It keeps a short text description of your profile picture so
it doesn't need to look at it again.
Notes about you
From your conversations, the AI writes and updates short notes about you (for example interests, games you
play, running jokes) so it remembers you between chats. What you've said waits in a short queue until it has
been summarised into those notes, then the queue is deleted. You can turn this off with /profiling,
which also deletes the notes.
Server memories
Every so often the AI reads back over recent chat in a server and writes down up to three moments worth
remembering as that group's shared history (for example "nvx built a mob grinder called the Mob Masher"), so
it can bring them up in later chats. Each is one line of text, with a list of the people it's about. The lines
it read are only held in memory until then. /forget and /profiling delete every
memory you're part of, and the bot stops keeping your lines.
What you're doing on Discord
The bot can see what Discord shows about you, such as the game you're playing, music you're listening to or your custom status. It uses this live as conversation context and doesn't store it separately.
Reminders and polls
The text, time, channel and people involved, until the reminder is delivered or the poll closes.
Quotes
When someone asks Static to "quote that", or saves a message as a quote, it keeps that one line in the
server's quote book: the words, who said them, when, and who saved it. Quotes are shared with the server on
purpose (anyone there can pull one up), so /forget doesn't remove them; a server admin, whoever
saved it, or the owner can delete a quote at any time.
Linked accounts
Only if you choose to, you can link your Discord and Fluxer accounts with /link and
!link. It then stores which two accounts belong together (their IDs and names), and each side can
use the notes the other side keeps about you. /unlink, !unlink or
/forget removes the link straight away.
Linked roles
If you connect Static to your account through Discord's Linked Roles, the bot reads your user ID and username once to look up your stats, and sends those stats (whether you've talked to it, how many times, and since when) to Discord so servers can give out roles. The access token Discord provides for this is used once and not stored. You can disconnect at any time in Discord's settings under Connections.
Logs
The owner's computer keeps system logs so problems can be fixed. They include the text of what the bot heard and said, errors, and the IP addresses of people signing in to the admin dashboard. Only the owner can read them, and they are deleted automatically as newer logs replace them, normally within a few weeks.
The website
The public pages (status, help and these policies) don't use tracking or analytics and don't set cookies. The admin dashboard sets a sign-in cookie for the owner and administrators only.
How it's used
Only to run the bot and to make it better: answering you, remembering context, delivering reminders, and tuning things like reply length and how it responds to the mood of a conversation. The owner may read logs and stored notes to fix bugs and improve the bot. We don't sell, rent or trade your data, don't use it for advertising, and don't use it to train AI models for anyone else.
Who else sees it
- Discord. Everything you send the bot on Discord, and everything it sends back, goes through Discord and is covered by Discord's privacy policy.
- Fluxer. On Fluxer, messages and voice go through the owner's own Fluxer server (including its voice server), not a company's.
- People in your server. The bot's replies, clips and polls are posted where others can see them, like any other message.
- Search engines. When the bot looks something up, the search words (never your voice, name or account) are sent to a search service run by the owner, which may pass them on to public search engines, and in some cases to DuckDuckGo.
- Weather service. When you ask about the weather, only the place name (for example "Denver") is sent to Open-Meteo to get the forecast - never who asked.
- Nobody else, unless the law requires it.
No AI company receives your data: speech recognition, the language model and the voice all run on the owner's computer.

Your choices

Security
Data is stored on the owner's own computer. It isn't on a shared cloud service. The admin dashboard is only reachable over HTTPS and needs a sign-in. No system is perfectly secure, but access is limited to the owner and the administrators they choose.
Age
You must be old enough to use Discord in your country (at least 13) to use Static. It isn't meant for children, and we don't knowingly collect data from anyone younger.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version is posted here with a new effective date. Continuing to use the bot after a change means you accept the updated policy.
